How to Stay Healthy in College?

As a college student, or those who had been to one, have you ever had a feeling like “finally I am free” when you first entered a college? I bet most of you had this kind of feeling before. Many students in Taiwan connect college with “freedom” because they are no longer under their parents’ supervision. Spending all night at the karaoke, staying up late, hanging out with friends, and abusing of liquor are common for many college students. In college years, we’ll definitely seize more freedom of ourselves; however, the styles of living mentioned above will definitely make us less healthy; therefore, how to maintain good living habits becomes a great issue for college students. There are three important ways that I found useful to maintain the quality of life and to make ourselves healthier during college time.

First, eat less instant food. Many college students eat instant noodles often either because they are lazy to go outside and buy themselves a meal, or because they cannot afford a healthy meal if it is the end of a month when they are saving. As a result, they will not get enough nutrition. When we face the lacking of nutrients, our bodies start to experience effects like dizziness and fatigue. Feeling tired or losing strength are definitely bad for us students because it requires both physical and mental strengths to study. What’s worse, there are various kinds of food additives in instant foods that do harm on our bodies and health. For example, Monosodium Glutamate and a great amount of sodium.

Secondly, do exercise at least three times a week. After doing exercise, we always feel refreshed, and we can concentrate on what we do more. Exercising is even more important for those who often stay up late or those who eat unhealthily, for our metabolism will be enhanced. There are several advantages of doing exercise regularly; for example, it helps block negative thoughts or distract us from daily worries. If one stays up late often, he or she must have a lot of potential pressure; in that case, exercising would be great for he or she to get rid of the heavy loads.

Finally, the most important one for me, go to bed and get up early. No matter doing assignments or having fun, we should prevent staying up. Staying up late puts us in a terrible cycle. That is, we get up late because we stayed up last night; therefore, we are not able to finish what we have to do today. As a result, we stay up to deal with those things. Staying in the bad cycle for a long time would ruin our health. Study has shown that there are several advantages of being an early bird. For example, our skins will look healthier, our productivities will be enhanced, and our regular diets will be sustained.

Our bodies will accompany us for the whole lifetime. It’s our assets to be young, but don’t spend all of it doing something that does harm on our health. Sometimes we do things that are not good for our health out of laziness or fun; however, spending the next several years of our lives carrying sickness caused by them is even worse, right? The three important ways of staying healthy mentioned above are not difficult; all we have to do are eat healthier, do more exercises, and be early birds, why not give them a try?
